Synopsis

Known for cinematic spectacles deeply intertwined with Korean history and identity, Taegukgi director Kang Je-kyu takes on the true story of marathoners Son Kee-chung and Suh Yun-bok in arousing biographical sports drama. Though hailed a hero for winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Son rues that the victory came under the Japanese flag. After Korea’s liberation, he coaches a promising young runner to compete at the 1947 Boston Marathon—and bring glory to the country with the Korean flag on his chest. Kang drew from historical records to render the marathon course and faithfully capture Son and Suh’s bumpy road to making history in Boston.
