Synopsis

Cherien Dabis’s epic saga of a Palestinian family in the Occupied West Bank begins in 1988, when a teenager takes to the streets to protest the occupation. But to understand what led to that life-changing moment, the film journeys back to 1948, where it follows the boy’s mother, Hanan, as she witnesses her father’s expulsion from Jaffa. Spanning multiple decades, Dabis’s tender and heartbreaking masterpiece depicts the tragedy of forced displacement and the scars it leaves on the generations that follow.
