Synopsis
America in the mid-1980s. In the midst of the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell. Angels in America is arguably one of the most important plays of recent decades. Spread over two parts, altogether more than seven hours long, Tony Kushner’s multi-award winning epic is funny, moving, sharp and insightful. This hugely imaginative exploration of love, pain, sickness, death, faith and politics resonates as much today as it did 25 years ago, when it premiered at London’s National Theatre between 1992 and 1993.
This sold-out revival is performed by an all-star ensemble of Hollywood and British theatre A-listers, led by Oscar-nominee Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man, Hacksaw Ridge) as Prior Walter, and featuring Denise Gough (Paula), James McArdle (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Russell Tovey (The History Boys) and Broadway veteran Nathan Lane (The Producers, The Birdcage).
This affirming, magical ode to the strength of humanity is directed by Olivier and Tony award winning director Marianne Elliott (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, War Horse).
