Synopsis
Best Director and Actor of the Year, Busan International Film FestivalInternational Film Festival Rotterdam
In 2016, Jeong Ga-young made her debut splash with Bitch on the Beach about a drunken cinephile trying to seduce her ex. She again writes, directs and stars as the charmingly aggressive heroine of her sophomore effort Hit the Night. Using research as an excuse, a young filmmaker approaches and interviews a man she’s interested in. She hits him with deeply personal questions about his love life and sexual desires while gradually getting him drunk. Their bond grows through the night but he seems impervious to her advances. Jeong smartly reverses gender roles and expectations in a script-driven relationship drama that is reminiscent of the works of Hong Sang-soo.
