A combination of hip-hop movie, coming-of-age drama and socially-conscious indie, Respeto announces the arrival of a major talent in director Treb Monteras II. Hendrix is an impoverished street kid who battles in the underground Manila rap scene to escape a dead-end life of crime and drugs. He makes an unlikely friend in Doc, a former political dissident who teaches Hendrix how to infuse his rap lyrics with the poetry of the streets. But the past informs the present, and this particular circle of life never ends well. With gritty intelligence and savvy, Monteras creates an energetic and realistic portrait of inner city lives with immediate socio-political relevance.
