The time is 1988, just as the Martial Law Era is ending. A-Han and Birdy meet in a school band led by a Canadian priest. As Taiwan commemorates its late President, the two boys go into a theater to watch the American film BIRDY, whose title character’s pursuit of freedom inspires Birdy. A-Han has feelings for Birdy, but Birdy’s attention seems increasingly drawn to a girl at their school. In desperation, A-Han confesses his sexuality to the priest, only to be shut down once again. Years later, A-Han goes to Montreal to mourn the priest, and discovers the priest’s lifelong secret. He also runs into Birdy in this distant city, an encounter that brings back memories and complex feelings.
