Twisted Strings(Ep. 1-2)(HKAFF 2022)

Director Huang Xi’s seven-episode anthology series is a marked change of pace from her humanist Golden Horse-nominated drama Missing Johnny (14th). Produced by Hou Hsiao-hsien and featuring music by the great Lim Giong, Twisted Strings features seven darkly funny magical realist tales about how characters from different walks of life deal with the sensitive subject of death. In the series opener, three siblings reunite and argue over their father’s funeral while the funeral home staff try to relocate a missing body. In episode two, a group of friends take part in an unusual scavenger hunt, setting off an elaborate revenge plan.
