Synopsis
Raphael, one of the most extraordinary artists of the Renaissance, brought on revolutions in art and architecture alongside Leonardo and Michaelangelo. Considered one of the all-time greats, Raphael’s career is inconceivable without Rome; ever since his arrival in 1508, Rome has also been inconceivable without Raphael. To celebrate the life and work of the Italian Renaissance painter and architect, the Scuderie del Quirinale held the most significant exhibition of his works – “Raffaello: 1520-1483”. With over 200 masterpieces loaned from the Louvre, Uffizi, National Gallery of Art and more, it marked the five hundredth anniversary of his death.
The exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity to see the breadth of Raphael’s skill, creativity and ingenuity, to which award-winning director Phil Grabsky and his team were granted access. This once-in-a-lifetime collaboration allows us to admire the splendour of Raphael’s art and the grandeur of the exhibition project even from a distance.
Not only does “Exhibition on Screen: Raphael Revealed” cover his life in Rome and offer a fresh look at the giant of the Renaissance - who is often misunderstood or mythologised - it also allows Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino to be truly revealed for the first time.
