Tales of Taipei

In the midst of the pandemic-driven downfall of print media, newspaper delivery man JERRY embarks on his final delivery journey. On his scooter, he navigates through the streets and narrow alleys of the city, encountering ten different forms of “love” and “affection” hidden within the urban landscape. Set against various corners of Taipei and narrated in different directorial styles, these tales collectively weave a tapestry of love that illuminates the city's freedom and diversity.

It includes a fantastical marriage inspired by the legend of the White Snake; a Malaysian bride's longing for her deceased husband; a Hong Kong expatriate who finally finds a warming love at a lottery store; a hip-hop rapping and DJ dream installed at a late night betel nut stand; inner conflicts and contradictions experienced by an actress as she navigates between reality and her roles; the ambiguous relationships of young people catalyzed by the night life of the city; an old man selling magnolias to commemorate his dear wife; how an unexpected event reshapes the values and perspectives of a Taiwanese-French couple; a Hong Kong daughter-in-law in a foreign land as she rediscovers the meaning of home.

As the city continues to embrace the diverse cultural backgrounds, people meet and connect in Taipei; giving each other the courage to love. Amidst moments of passion and absurdity; conflicts and regrets; humor and resignation; a sense of belonging and freedom; the story calls upon everyone to resonate with love and find their own version of love in "Tales of Taipei."
