Synopsis
HKAFF and Aēsop have jointly presented an outdoor screening with a Bhutanese film in 2019. This year, we are returning with The Monk and the Gun by the Oscars nominee Pawo Choyning Dorji! Holding the hope for democratising Bhutan, the King voluntarily abdicates and mobilizes the civil servants to conduct mock elections, educating the villagers on voting. Responding to the news, a monk assigns his apprentice to get him two guns by then. Though this strange request has confused everyone, the way of searching for guns is never smooth since somebody else is looking for the gun too...The film captures a wide range of stunning scenery revealing the simplicity and serenity of Bhutan’s nature.
